Back on Home ground after a long nice warm sunny ten days on Sylt without any breeze of wind.

For the most tourist people it was maybe quit nice but for us sailors it was getting quit boring.
Even do i was pretty much cycling almost each day around the island and in the first days a bit of surfing it was quit a long 10 days.

Luckly the Freestylers gave the event with the tow in still some taste..

As this was the last event i am now official finished on a 16 Overall place, this position makes the feel stronger and stronger to could get next year to a top ten result.

The wind is back on track here in holland and am stoked to be back in the water again tomorrow.

ColdHawaii Klitmoller,

With the wind forecast from last year i and many other could not dream of getting similar or even better condition's.
What we got was insane, waves who were mast or more high...

Like each year I been working for my dad the 2 weeks before the event till the Saturday, as that job have to be done between the dates so my energie was not upper level a long drive to klimoller. But i need the money to do the events!!!

So i was quit happy i was in the second round and got one more day off rest.

That Tuesday we stood up 6 oçlock to prepare everything to my heat against Camile..
I rigt my 4.0 and 4.2 and started my heat with my 4.0 in the hardcore big waves.

While i stept up my board and sheat in my mast straight broke down. I guess that is clearly a one time garanty one..
So with the help off the guyss at the beach i took off on my 4.2 and plain out.
Sundely the wind dropt and i was standing there for a half minute between mast high waves.
Luckly it pick up again were i catch up a nice big wave and road it to the beach.
While going out i got catch by some big white water and lucky i kept my gear with me.
Made my jumps and got another wave and mannish to pass the heat.

Next heat against Phillip K, welll eachy one...

Opend my heat with a big big backloop all the way in the back on a mast high wave only with the landing i fully exploded. Later with another attempt i made it.

My idea was to beat Phillip was the go for the big waves, done that only at the second wave i got eaten by this mast high wave and had to swim for for 10minute after my kit.

Lucky enouff the safety Jetski was drinking a coffea and by the time he was with me i was 1km down wind and de-rigt my gear and got a very exciting drive back through the big waves!!!

Because we started that morning early i could started later that day my double elemination heat against Phill H. I knew we would be similare riders and try to go big but also save to not get washed or so.. Made a good high bacloop and a super high tweaked Pushlooop and had 5 minute to find my second wave. Only each wave what i catch up didn't bild up like i wanted to beand i end up catch a wave in the last second's. Here i knew the wave would really build up later and made a wickel (backside frontside turn)to claim the wavein the 3sec before the red flag. So later that wave i done what i need to do what was a backside 360 straight into a cutback off the lip. I knew this would be enouff to claim the heat..

At the beach i was really seprised i didn't pass the heat and next that they didn't score that las wave they even mist that tweaked push because they were really foccused on Phil and Jamie H who got the same sail sponsor!!!!!

So once again i feel quit frustrated....

In the last wave i brushed my big toe so i can't even sail in the days now...

I hope Sylt will bring some conditions.. Time will tell

After the PWA event in Tenerife i stickt for a bit more in Tenerife.
We scored some good conditions a Cabezo, Harbor wall and even some nice waves at the Beach break infront off the surfcenter OTC.

One and half week ago i got back home again after landing on Dusseldorf/Weeze airport were from i got a transfer to Eindhoven airport as there was no direct flight. So once again thumbs up to Marco..

Were 99% off the europe people complaining of shitty weather windsurfing Europe or at leached windsurfing Holland been more than stoked. Seems for now we got the best summer ever.

Few days later i was already back on the board and saw what i mist in the last month.
My home spot been prety much on fire and it looks like i will continue..

The wind has dropped and the rest off Holland 99% can start enjoy the summer days.

Main while i recieft my new Lady's, they can enjoy the summer days for a bit before they need to get to action!!!

The day started started easy, while signing in for another wave contest here in Tenerife the tight came slowly up and the first heats started at 13.30, prety much with high tight.

The wind was not that strong in my heat against a local guy and the 5.3 was a good choice to move me around.

Opening with a good backloop i could start focusing on some wave riding.
Got some okay turns and was seprised at on wave how hollow it suckt and almost went nose first down while going to the bottum off the wave..
Beat the guy by far and next heat was against Ross Williams.

First round out i open with okay backloop but while landing the custom light weight mast broke.
Luckly Adam team mate Point-7 was came out to me on my second set what i had ready, so i could continue my heat.

Still i need a jump so tryed to get that, i could not find any ramp in the changed to onshore small wave conditions.
Went out and waited there a while for a good wave, again nothing..
Time was now ticking against me, went in and found going out a okay ramp for a nice tweked pushloop.

With the small time left i changed my plan from good wave riding to spin moves and wave riding.
Mannish to get the backside 360ties and taka's but had to say it were not the biggest waves.

That plan with the short time left was not the ride plan and so i lost...

Hope we can work out the double tomorrow so i can make a good come back..

Pozo´s double style,

After i past one round in the single i had some luck they placed me straight in the second round of the double elamination as the sheet was incomplete..

Here i was waiting what i thought i would be on a dutch heat between me and Peter Volwater.
I got pretty sepriced peter lost against the local kid and knew i had to sail well to pass.

After been resting the last days to get better again after still body problem from that big crash, i took a quit long warming up sesss to get back in the riddem again..

The heat started not really special for me and it took me a while to get some jumps done.
Wave riding wise i was doing okay with backside and frontside 360 and good turns..

In the last minute my caddy Marco informed me to do another big jump and i went full speed outside and made okay tabletop/foward what sealed the deal.

Next was Mister proffit..

The heats before that heat the wind started to really pick up. i was well tuned up with 3.7.
The heat started okay but pretty soon my arm's got prety full and i started to struggle to hold on the boom.. That problem prety much killed me and after the heat my arm's were more tight than a stone on the beach...

With a 17th place i am okay happy.

Pozo has started,

The first day started really well as good waves rolled in and the wind was full on.

Before my heat i went out for a small warming up spin, what change into my worst start what u can think off.

Made a quit high tweaked push and while pushing out i went for another round and landed after the second rotation full in my kit.
With 1 hour left and a spinny head i had to repare a hole in my sail and a propper crack of my knee in my board.

So my first heat started prety not organiced and took a while before in found my riddem back again with backside threes
's and taka's...

In the second round i was against Klaas Voget and while i was sailing out in my heat i felt the wind was dropping but though it would rish again but in the strong got less and less and by the time i wanted to change i was stucked on the bunkers.. Made it back with 5 min left and thanks to Marco i changed to 4.4 and had okay power again but that was not enouff anymore.

Let see what the double will bringg..

What mend to the last day change to another Irish road trip

It feels already a while the Ireland trip as when I landed back in Holland I could straight away put my straps back on my board and windsurf for another full week more on home gound. That same Low pressure what gave us that week long some amazing condition at Northwest Ireland pushed through and help the Ryanair airplane score another flight on time.

That Saturday after the closing party off the BWA contest in Brandon bay I was sure I would not see a more crazy party as that one.
That night off the BWA close party also started the began off Birthday party of Mikey Clancy and he used it full on.. The only thing I can say is Ketchup, t shirts, pockets and walls and closhed hahhahaha

We drove back to Dublin were we could aspect another Party with Mikey’s family and friends.
Here I also learned to know that 21years old is a big thing in Ireland.
What started with easy going music like Rolling Stones end at 5 o’clock in the night/ morning still going strong Trans Music, what te fuck…

That hole Sunday was standing for a long day recover and the last day for me before going home.
That evening while I was screwing my straps off to prepare my gear for the flight we had a small look to the forecast and another seriously look as a huge Low was placing him self ride in front off Ireland.

After seeing so many pictures video’s off Mikey or Timo of the spot Magheroarty I knew it was the call off all calls.
I changed my flight for a week later one.

Monday morning we repacked everything in the Van and drove in a 4 hours trip up to N western part off Ireland. During that trip we once again got showed on the history of Ireland and England as we drove through a small part off England/ Ireland.

Once there we were straight away got blest by some starting up swell, this was more than a confirmation that we made the ride choose.
What mend to be the last day’s of the Ireland trip changed to a extra Road trip.

After the easy sess we got lucky with arrange of a house, as it was 4star one, ride on a hill with a view over a big valley… we were Living as Kings only without a crown than’’….

The next day by arrive at the beach, the swell was full on.

I went out as first and found at the back a nice ramp for a good high backie, after the landing when got back into pleaning I was quit shocked by the big white water line what was coming towards me I realist I had to make a fast chicken jibe to get away, done that but was still was sepriced that the hole bay got close out. Okay check

I got to the reef and had a small bite off what would be with the ride tide a even better wave later the day.

That eave when the tide was rising the wave came with perfection.
We all enjoy it full on and pretty much ript or bud off till the tide came to high..

This was only Tuesday hahahahahahhah well what came the days after I guess u already know and it was even better than that..

‘Highlights’

I was so surprised off the big balls off Katie (affcours on a good way than). See was out there with waves up to mast high and still carving the waves up.. check

Timo mister energy him self, probably Redbull used his blood to get the drink like it is.. The founder off many spot in Ireland is still carving it up with good timing and nice round houses and goiters…

Mikey Clancy the young feller with a age off 21. He has for sure a stiffer ankle than a wooden stick off a grandpa.. He had 2 hard years as he had the worst nightmare u can imagine. He crashed his ankle around 2 years ago and found out his ankle was pretty much gone. The joint broke in 10.000 peaces, so they were force to tight his ankle up in the way off fully fixed..
The only part what still moves are his knee and toe’s ..
You would think you need a flexible ankle, well Mikey proofs the opposite.

He is still full on it and rip it up like never before and is enjoying windsurf maybe even more than before. ‘He is sending it’

‘Back to the track

The last day came and we hoped to squeeze one more sesss out later that day with the tight changing. But that seems t be a wrong call, the swell was dropping each minute.

Like if we did not sailed enough we where still keen on checking the beach break but for sure that was not the smartest check.
We got stock in the sand and worst is that I said I told you so’ would not really help. Hhahahhahahha
With a offer from Mikey side by collecting stones in the full power rain and some smart thinking of us by put a board bag under the wheel we got free again, like the weather was playing with us the rain stop for a bit as soon we got free…

With saying good bye to the donkey we left Magerothy behind us and position or self for another 4 hours drive in or seat’s.
In those four hours I never saw that much rain, it rain pretty much non stop from A to B full power…

With a few Guinness that eave we close that trip in Irish style.

BWA wave champion ships on Fire,

After a onshore morning start were i had a really smooth heat the contest moved to a other beach were the wind was offshore and the wave max knee high. Here we continue the heats and i had to borrow a Quatro custom board of Dave white what was 110Liters.

This gave me still the change to moggel around in the hard tiny conditions, still i could not tune in the conditions. I guess the small waves are not made for 205cm.
Ben Proffit won that final with Phil second.

Today the waves rolled better in and the wind was with gust bit stronger.

In my first heat i choose for my 90twin Mistral to keep the Mistral spirit alive. That pretty much neck me as the wind was to op and down. I had some okay waves were in had in one wave a perfect setup for a okay big aerial, here i choose for a bottom to top turn smack aerial into tweaking it only while get the board under need me my feet slip out and did not mannish to land it with one foot.. That choose made me loosing the heat as i had not other same kind of bigger wave later on..

I s good to see that the level down here i really high up in wave riding.

Back in Ireland,

My flight was to easy with 2 packets off total 38 kilo's and have to say life is so much more easy like that.

Mikey and i drove on Friday from the east to the west and check out a special spot for southern wind. That choose looked like the wrong one but as time brought the evening decision came on the ride place. With my Swell 5.3 and my twin we floated out and got stunned about the perfection of the clean waves and enjoyed or self with one more surfer till darkness.

As Katy the Irish Doctor/ windsurfer arrange a house, so we drove that night back to Brandon bay and stayed there the next day too.

Saturday mid day we drove back as the forecast was promising even more wind for that spot and look forward to more perfect waves.

Once arrived there the tide still needed to kick in and we took it easy while drink a warm coffee tasted more the well after the drive.

We slowly starting to rig and was glad i brought my smaller sail Swell 4.1.
As i rigged it and turned away to grape my board but turned my head back as i heard something and got proper smacked by the end of the boom ( mike Tyson would be nothing by it)) Felt straight away that my nose was proper broken and was bleeding like hell. Instinct said i had to push the nose back and did that and the bleeding became less after that. Lucky Doctor Katy was with us and gave me some inflamation pils and a local guy gave me ice and invite me in his house. I could forgot about the windsurf sess so step in the car and started to film Mikey to make my self useful. Today i was more than surprised my nose was not to swollen and not to painful.

Went in the evening out for a spin as the Pro fleat of the comp was Canceled.

Tomorrow more wind.

Back into Business,

Boardbag’s are packt and ready to roll in the plane later today for a short flight to Dublin.
Here Mikey Clancy will pick me up to go probably straight to one of his home breaks off DuB.

The forecast looks promising after i been pretty heated up back in Holland where a High pressure been hanging around to long..

Still catch some good conditions on the Wadden Island last weekend and enjoyed my walk over the sandplate’s between the islands!!!!

The BWA is always a good warming up for the upcoming PWA calender and am curiouse if i can nock down some top brisch and irisch sailors.

My 2011 Swell Point -7 sails are tuned and ready where my 2010 Mistrals are more than tuned, so let the wind blow and the waves Rrrrollle in because i am also tuned.

On Friday i arrived back on home ground after a long 22hours flight back..
NL Wijk aan zee, thanks to JePe

SA been to good for me, the conditions been non stop with waves and wind so this trip been more than a good one..

Normal around this time Holland should be cold and colder..
But It's 10 degrees and south west wind is blowing in the last few days non stop.
So with the exciting energy from my friends here i went back on the water on Saturday.

That Sess was Gnarly with 5 degrees water and overpowerd 4.1.
But luckly i could do another round the next day were the 4.1 was the perfect setup with a full playground of ramps and wave rides Wijk aan zee on his best...

So for now more than happy to be back..

Last witsands sess before another last round..

The South African wind came till a end after a long period stabile blowing, but no worries next Swell is arriving tomorrow together with the wind.

We catch the last running swell on the other side off the mountain first at Cape Point were we had a full Pull 4.1 wave ride session with 1/5 m waves and on the way back another sess at WitSands with nice confi 4.7 sess..

Yesterday we made use of a inventation of Pete the owner of South African Seattle coffee.
He showed us his new Factory here in Cape Town what also will be soon a full coffee Cafe.
If you want a good coffee before hitting the main streets pass by more than wurth..

With still one day off now my body is more than happy to make use off that, so i will be reloaded for what will be for me one more week off good condtion's..

Had a big session on Scarbrough outer point..
In the second session i went more for it and broke my mast after a aeriall.
Had to Derig on open sea and After a long swim against the wind trying the get in the corner of the bay were the waves were smaller, mannish to make that.

There tryed to timed the set and swim in on a smaller wav but what also rolled me over. Here i still hold everything together but had to breath one moment, so let the kit go.
Lost the sail, what was in one sec away and nefer saw it back..

With the forecast promesing good big waves we drove the hole cape road to find some wind as the wave were no problem..

We found nothing on the end and after a bit of relaxing we nothest that the wind pick up in tableview.

We gave Haakgat a first try as i know the wind is sometimes cheat a bit with building up.
I was ride.

The first kite kit's were pumping there way and i float out on my bigger kit.
It was prety hard as the current and the light wind was not a perfect combo..

Back In Cape Town where it all start it for me...

It’s allready three years ago that i went for the last time to SA. This came through few things.
That last 6th year I chrased my ankle two times prety nasty in those 3 months and next to that was the wind wind season pretty bad too.

Sa did not felt as the ride place to go in the last three years..

In those three years i started to train more on low wind wave riding.. What really work out well.

With making the plan for this winter i knew i had to start foccus again on the jumping part..
SA been alway one off the constant places fort that, so i gave my self a present by bying a in my eyes a pretty expensive ticket..

SA here we come…

Turkies airlines was one off the only airlines what seem to be still okay priced and easy with gear.
For the 30th we booked or ticket with a stop in Istanbul, Johannesburg and Cape Town.

The Checkin at Schiphol went pretty easy and after a bit off talking the gear came for free with us..

With a nice two day stop in istanbul we celebrate New Years by one off Marc friends who life there..
The city is so nice.. Sultan’s Building’s from back in the day with nice stylisch design’s were still standing there with more than proud..
People on the streets down here are so nice and helpfull, Market with nice cossy shops, just a good invirement to be in.

In the night we stept on a boat what was cruising through the cannal of the city with the thousand lights as back ground off the city. That was my best Celebration ever with New years..

With Landing on the airport of Cape Town i was so seprised how much the airport has changed.. Football has left some good things behind i guess..

Slowly all memories from those 6 years came back to me while driving to or place..

The First day’s were quit easy and low wind Sailing what felt more than convertible to me..
The last few days been more hacktick with strong gusty wind and prety powerfull waves..
Yesterday i really improfe my swimming skills and crashes, i guess i was not my day. Hhhehhehe..

With still three weeks to go i am currious what cape town will bring to me this time.. Time will Tell.

The Autumn season has started....

Hey yeah guy’s,

I’m already a few weeks back home in Holland and till last weekend it been prety quiet with wind…

What the forecast was promising already the holle week came truth..

A northwestern groundswell what bilt up along the scotty’s east side came early saterday morning in..
Together with a North East wind we/ the boys decide to go for a Island trip..

Texel gave in the years before allready good condition’s, only it always was on certain point off tide..

So when we arrived on the nothern point i was a bit sceptici if it would work as this was the First time for us with north east wind..

Luckly the guys were more than keen and we had quit fun in the bounchy hollow First hour..
During the tide change it came smoother and smoother and after we came back off a short break it looked like The Grandma off the island iron the waves to a perfection…

The roof went on fire and it came easier to time the waves. Still it was everything or Nothing /Swimming..

With the North Cold east wind we came after a few hours to or bottum off energy and stept in the Van with a satisfied feeling…

Hey Yeah guys's,

With coming to sylt one week ago i still had some optimisme as a big low depressure should still good be on time on the last part off Sylt PWA contest.

But luck seems to be not on time and looks like the wind will lick in to layed.
Next two days i think are made for some more Slalom or maybe FReestyle.

I was really trickerd to make another good perform after doing prety okay in Klittmoller 17th place..

So for now i need to put my money on CV only it is not in my hands.
I'm just slighty ranked out off the top 22 and have to wait on the descion off the PWA.

Gunning my way to Sylt,

The PWA KIA cold Hawaii event is till his end and i guess after the Summery by the PWA i do not need to say much more of my result.

On the wave face there are whole host of lip smacking moves that gain bucket loads of kudos. And, the most impressive of these during the competition had to be a simple aerial from Dutch giant, Martin Ten Hoeve (Mistral). After hammering his way down a mast high face he whipped his board round to head straight for the thickest section. After hitting it as hard as he could, the lip threw him right out into the flats to gain massive respect from everyone on the beach.

I came on die end on a 17th place..

On the last day i cast a cold and had to stay home, but really enjoy my self with the live streaming.. Amazing to see the interactive between the people at home and the speakermen..

Good feeling after a long tropical beach day...

Hey Yeay guys,

Yesterday we finished the single...
I past one heat were i was kind off unlucky in the second heat against Dany bruch. I broke my mast in the last part off the heat..

Today was a new day what only started prety toff..

I was in the seconde heat what we had to resail 3 times, but won on die end..
The conditions were prety technical as the wind was really up and down and shit load off current but next to that we reciefed really nice waves..

In the second heat i had Marcos Perez. I mannish to get a really nice wave rides and one prety high backloop.. So was realllly stoked when i pass..

In the third one i had to sail against my Team buddy Jonas.
The wind was still up when we started but went slowly down during the heat.
On die end it was a close call, the Nice aireal off me was not enough..
I wish Jonas all the beast in the up coming heats tommorow..

Last Saterday we catched a okay evening session.

During that session Ruben Snitslaar was once again back in the water after it didn't been good enough for a watershoot session since more than six months..

I really need to say Ruben improved him self allot..

The Windsurf hart beat , is once again pumping through vein‘s off the Dutch rider..

After a week already looking to this big Low depressure outside of Ireland it is finally happing.
A Déjà vu on last year is starting up and the end off a non wind halve season is finally till his end.

Where we were still happy last Saterday with a nice evening session the forecast fully changed to a perfect setup for this week.

Yesterday it was on, Wijk aan Zee fully changed to a over parked parking place not because off the to many windsurfers but beacase the Sail Event with the Old ships was till his end..

The last view off the ships were in the harbor off Wijk aan zee/ IJmuiden , before the they sailed out with the tail between there legs into the windy North Sea, as tough they sailed out they also straight away parked there ship few KM outside again with there nose in the wind.. I quess they where afraid the ship would break or the old mast’s would break… hahhahahha Captain hero’ss..

Wijk brought us from side shore to full onshore back again to side side onshore wind, So with on off the last session’s still on Pozo I felt pretty comfortable..

During the session’s I feel more and more convertible on my new Mistral Boards..

Where I was straight away convertible with sailing with high speed and allot off controlle, I had to change my wave riding a bit from a full rail riding (pretty technical) to a more flatter bottum turn and a flat upper charging part before making the cutback..

The main different is, less technical and more speed and still a shorter turn with a nice top spin feel in the top turn..

With the Sun going down we ended or session and kept or big smile..

Let see what windy day two will bring…

On The Road,

After the PWA event I stayed for 2 weeks more in Pozo were I scored some proper conditions and enjoyed my self full power.. One off the main thing what I was trying to learn was the frontside wave 360, with the onshore condition I found this move pretty hard to make.
After three weeks there my body needed some easy flow easy go again.

Once back I found out I was one off the lucky once who still had some windsurfing in my arm’s, all the guys back in Holland were more than frustrated.

The weather here in Europe seems to do strains things, some guys who only sailed here in Holland can still count there Wave days on one hand.
There are a few different theories about that, one off them is that Iceland volcano is influence the system and the other one is that the northerly ice pole is warming up and pushing the weather system out off balance and afcours we still got the El nino one!! Let’s hope its just a one day fly thing!!!!!!

The DK Crip crew asked me to come along for a short trip DK where the forecast was promising..
Once there we cast some decent side side offshore conditions on Hanstholm and soon the smile where back..

As finish touch we cast on the end off the next day some decent onshore wave riding on Akker.
It looked like we where to late at the spot as everyone where deriging , but there was still some wind left and cast I guess one off the bigger waves of that day.

I try the Misral 90 twin for the first time in proper onshore waves and was stunt I kept so much speed through the bottum and top turns something different what I had before… Looking forward to my next session on it!!

During the days the good forecast changed and on die end we where lucky to at least score some surf on the last day..

Mean while back home in my home town the guys invented some for me new thing Tarp surfing check (http://klatser.com/archives/15070), maybe soon there will be something similar like that for wave windsurf if the weather stay’s like this..

Pozo time,

Yesterday mid day i arrived after a long trip in Gran Canaria.
I had to fly over italie where Anders B was waiting with the new gear, from there i toookoff again to GC..

During the drive early in the morning from my place up to Maastricht, we saw so many people driving with a full foccust face and all had a white T shirt that i on one point realisted it was not luck, they all just came from the White Sensation that night, hahhahhahhah, you had to see those faces.. Still on fullpower foccus face...

Let hope the forecast here in pozo will change a bit and will work..

Inch beach

I'm just back from a trip to Ireland, were i competed in the BWA in Brandonbay.

A Four event championship in Rhosneiger, Brandon bay, Tiree and Cornwall.
The level is amazing high and the amateur’s are more than stoked to competed in there own championships.

Jordy van der Panne , Mister Ciske came along with me to join the small trip to Ireland.

After a pretty sketchy trip to Frankfurt Hahn airport, as it was not sure if we would fly, because of the as cloud of Iceland.
We were one off the lucky once and made it to Kerry airport in Ireland included gear,
Where was a 4x4 Van waiting off a friend and sponsor of my www.bodemenwater.nl Marc.

We straight away drove to the beach where we were just on time for the first elimination setup.
Nice waves rolled in, but on die end the wind didn’t came through. We catch a beautiful smal surf and were stoked we made it.

The forecast was promising for the next day’s

The day to be, the skipper meeting was at 6.30 in the morning at the beach.
The waves were not to high but as I already saw in the low wind off the day before the level is really high.
Most off them are pretty tiny, what for me is knee high is for them head “high” …

Ben Profit and Graham were promising good things for the comp..

I prepared a my gear but stayed as long as possible off the water for my finger what was still recovering off a pretty bad infection..

The moment off truth:

15 min before my heat against Timo Mullen, team mate Adam and Murray, I went in for a feel, on that moment it felt pretty light and was unconvertible, but asson my heat started the wind picked up a bit and the waves became 1m.
II try to sail as vertical as possible and after 2 okay waves went for some more radical tricks, to try to make a different in the smaller waves, on die end those almost aerial taka where not enough.. Seems that the more speedy turns off Timo and Murray was better choose..

It was nice to see the female’s out there on the water, they were ripping it, also the amateurs and Masters were fighting hard for the gold. Winner off the First elimination Pro’s was Ben Profit..

Wednesday look like it would not happen, but in the afternoon we all were pretty surprised of the strong wind what came though.

Once on the beach I found out I moved to the second round as I had the best point’s off the first round of the first elimination.
I rig up 3 sails again but stayed on the beach as my finger was not get any better but even worse. I was again on the anti biotic pills ..

Wind was pretty up and down, so I took my 5.3 in my heat.. I guy was sailing well and in the begin he was leading, but I found my riddem back and even mannish to make a taka after a long ride on the wave in the last minute off the heat.

Next heat was against local hero Rob Jones Mister (Otto off the simpsons).
In the upwind ride off the heat before my harness line broke and in the 3 minutes transition I had no time t change that, wind picked up so on that moment I look liked 5.0 was the sail to be, only during the heat the wind became lesss and less.. After trying to make the best off it, Otto was doing really well and passed to the next round.. During the 5 position heat the wind really died and didn’t came back anymore. On die end I became 7th..

Next days we cached some excellent surf on Inch and inch reef and enjoyed the beauty of Ireland nature..

Hey Yeah Guy's,

It's already a while ago i post something.Well time fly's when you have fun (working)

I been busy the last view weeks with working for my dad to get a smal exstra boosd for the hole year windsurf..

I scored some nice promo in the dutch magazine's (surfmagazine and Motion).
Next to the picture they were giving me kredits i always sail in the cold dutch winter weather, hhehehhe i guess they wrote it befor the winter as i escape from this last winter by going to the Canarisch islands for the hole winter...

Last monday there was no escaping off the weather, nice northenly east wind with some nice swell came over and i was seprised off how many people where out there.

By my self i had prety troubles with put my wetsuit on and going out, on die end off the day i went, the next day i guess i found out why i maybe did not want to go.

I got a infected finger and taking anti antibiotica pill's as it is prety bad..

Soon i got a nice interview in the Belgiam magazine The Swell, so go to your international bookstore and read it... if thats possible hehehehe.

The Mistral wind has started

Since a week I’m back on home ground.
It feel’s good to be back after 3 months away, those three month’s where really nice, everything went in a nice flow.
What was not fully planned felt like super planned, 1/5months free sailing/ training/ surfing, 2 weeks Fuerte Wave Classic, Two weeks off Testing for P7 in Tenerife, 2 weeks off photo shoot in Lanzarote..

During my trip I had allot guy’s who help me out, so thanks to:

Oscar Surfschool Hotzone, Bouke and Ben Witchcraft, OTC Adam and the hole crew of the OTC and Phillipo of Lanzarote.. Thanks Guy’s, it’s good to know there are still helpful people..

I learned allot during months, special from Andrea C and Anders B, the two boss’s who almost have together the same experience’s as my grandma!!!

Luck is on my side, as the weather is pretty convertible at the moment, let see how fast there will be some good condition’s again..

Martin Ten Hoeve on Mistral and Aeron booms,

I’m more than happy to announce I will sail on Mistral boards from now on..

For me the first sensation of windsurf all started on a Mistral windsurf board back in the beginning, I am really happy to continue this feeling once again on the Mistral boards..

With the warm outgoing character off Anders Bringdal I feel more than welcome to Family of Mistral.

Anders Brindal:
I am very happy to work with Martin. He is big time out of the normal size... but when sailing manage to use this to his advantage and has some amazing top to bottom connections on the waves with plenty of drive and pop...
His Back side 360 is also pretty mean... I will expect big things from him in the upcoming years. Watching him sail is a bit like watching Play station..... double click on left and hold in the punch button and voila, nice air taka....
He will be a great asset and works really well with Jonas, it will give Mistral a real edge as the boards will be tested though the extremes and by the riders who truly rip.

Photo Shoot,
Lanzarote island is amazing, the combination off mountain’s, green grass, rocks and beautiful blue water, this is really one off the better place’s for doing the photo shoot.
The main spot where we sail makes me think of a mirror image of Punta Preta..

The boards looks and feel really balanced, what the graphic design expressing show on land suits really on the water… The 86 shock feels really alive, It has a easy pleaning ability and feels really easy while pleaning and has a high end speed, once on the wave it’s fast, good bottum and top turn for a onshore Wave board..

Aeron will support me with the New V grip Booms and accessories.

With a nice start during the Fuerte wave classic, I feel ready to enter a new year of competition and continue to grow were I stopped last year…

We didn't score that big as last year but stilll it been a really nice event.
0ff the ten days we scored 6 days windsurf and a few day off surf.

Or Team came second after a minimal off 0.5 point's..

Hey yeah Guy’s,

I’m ride now in Fuerte for the last two weeks, Scoring good windsurf and allot off surf condition’s..

Here in Corralejo I’m staying with a good friend who started his own surf school The Hot Zone surf school in the last 2 years. He is well experienced with teaching , but what is more important is that he really want to bring over the living of a surfer and want to bring you to a higher level in surfing and life. His character comes really back in his School…

His experience about reef breaks and current gave me also a new look on the ocean and his power, with this i am also strength my body and mind, to go full power again for 2010 Wave….

I’m at the moment more dead than alive after three weeks off almost none stop windsurfing.
From Just wave riding, jumping to combine off those, windsurf windsurf and allot more windsurf.

Today it was the last day off those three weeks off sailing.

It was really Cream of the la Cream’s of all day‘s.

Holly shit, floating out on my big wave board and 5.7 Swell Sail with side offshore light wind and 2 m full hollow lines waves breaking, for Dutch waves they where pretty hollow. Just Sick.

How stabile the last 3 weeks were is really special for Dutch weather system.
Let see what the Month December will bring..

Holland better than ever,

It started 1/5 week ago with wind blowing from the south.
Till now it didn’t stop, still windy and there is one more week coming.

I’m enjoying this days as nothing else, each day a new day with similar condition’s.
Goals lately are to improve my wave riding, finish my turns all the way.. Carving it from top to bottum to backside.. Finding the best angle To get the best speed during the turns, when you find those turns it feels amazing..

This day’s I also med a different wind than I felt ever before. So gusty, fuck, like last week I had at leached 3 times a proper take off for a backloop where I had on the highest point just suddenly no more wind, what happened after that was just funny, falling as dead bird out off the air… au…

Yesterday I had the worst timing ever in everything, I started with a5.0 what was way to powered up, than I tuned to a 4.1 what was good but also not good, I was speeding and on the same moment standing still, than I tuned to a 4.7 were I had one round when the wind died totally. I was so pist off that really didn’t want to gif up, I rig up again my 5.0, here I found slowly a okay session with down line wave riding till the dark came sooner than I wished…

In the evening someone asked me “what it takes to get there were I’m ride now” I found that day the perfect answer on that question. To not gif up at all times..

Yesterday I saw a kid on the water, I quess he is 12 years old, he had a smile from ear to ear. I hope he has that same spirit..

HIGH LIGHTS

For me this month been full off high light,

Thijs van De Meer gave me a while ago a book with the titel Flow, psychology of optimal experience.

By this book I learned appreciate more the small things, with that you appreciate the bigger things/ high lights even more.
On die end the biggest high lights are for me still connected to windsurf or surf .

Like when I made my first Backside 360 straight into top turn into a carve bottum to top turn into a nice aerial or making after 25 attempts my best wave 360 in Hanstholm. Or like last Monday making my first taka over starboard tack, or yesterday , what tuned into my best seeing/ ridded wave ever in Holland. This session came in total luck.

In competition way I reached in Sylt one off my best high lights, by beating Mister Jason Polakow who was my own Hero in my younger age. Making my first Okay double forward in a direct heat against Campello.

But one off the best was last week at Makkum’s Festival, here someone introduce me to a kid who didn’t recognised me straight away, but as the name came into his ear’s his face expression changed into a big smile.
I found that Hart warming.. Thanks for that..

Of course I also made some new High Lights by promotion stuff.

Last Friday session, WAVE 360

NORTHERLY DIRECTION"S,

4 day’s before the PWA Worlcup Sylt would start , I phoned Mikey Clancy up if he was down for a short introduction trainings session in Denmark. He straight said yes and the next morning he catch his flyed up to Hamburg.

That same morning I step in my Van what I already got for 12 years, it just had the full check up and so was ready for a road trip.
Some where in Hannover I catch owe off my scariest adventures.
I was driving on the 3th left lane with 120 speed when my right back tire exploded, with some skills I mannish to get the car to the flight strip.
In the shaking conditions I put my engine out and step out off my car, here I saw that I would not get it fixed because I was standing with one side off the car in the ditch. Than I heard another big bang, my cooling system exploded because I didn’t let the ignition key on. Now I was getting really nerves as the truck ‘s were passing me with 100km and 30 cm distance. I didn’t brought any tools with so there I was standing.
Breathe in and out!!!!!
I fixed the cooling tube by tighten it up with a knife, than refill the cooling water, drove the car on the rim a bit father onto a more straight place, there I changed the tire, still I was scary like hell because the truck ‘s could blow my car/jack side ways. I Manish to fix it and drove off the high way where I saw a M Donald’s logo, so I thought, go there and fix the car and catch a meall. While driving there I saw a garage and asked the guy if I could use there tools, that was okay Wow that was a nice one. Took me 2 hours to refill and fixing it all as my cooling propeller didn’t work either anymore , fix that to.
Back on the road and many hours later, mane while Mikey was sitting their on the airport as a clown enjoying the people with his 4 off gigantic bags.

I was happy that Mikey liked my car as it has his character. With the heater on warm for extra cooling we continue or road. Around 1 in the night we stopped in forest were we felt a sleep.

Next morning drove the last 2,5 hours up to Klitt and dropped the gear what we didn’t needed.
We catch a small session on Old Macdonalds where the waves picked up fast. That was a good training for Sylt.
Than we drove up to Hanstholm where we continue or sailing all the way to the evening.
In the evening I was on the wave 360 mission and Manish on die end to making one full carved all the way back in the wave. Mikey self was carving the wave up. Stoked we felt a sleep.

Next morning we made or self a good breakfast with or Dutch neighbours and went out for a session off 2.5 hours. Here I scored my best ever ride. I made a backside smooth 360 straight into front side top turn, than went down and catch the lip for a nice aireal. Wow that was it, stoked like hell..

At 2.30 we repacked everything and drove down to Sylt were we arrived at 9 in the evening.

Here we went into a waiting period off a few days before we could go for a wave session again.
It was still pretty warm till middle of the week when a fat Low came over from the north west.

Thurstday 6 o’clock went my alarm, oehff that was a toff one. Tuned my gear and went out for a halve hour with 4.7 and my 93 twin, that felt all good. Not to much wind ass I’m not the best on starboard tack.
In the second heat one before mine the wind picked up as a fat cloud came over. As soon my heat started the wind died in the shorth break and so I had troubles to get out. I stayed calm and tried it again, this time I came trough. One the moment I went trought the break I saw him doing a backloop so I catch my wave and done it too, straight after catch my first wave. Again I had troubles to get out but I did, I made a up wind tack and decided to stay outside of the shorth break as I only had 3 min left. I was looking for a second jump but couldn’t find it, went all the way out were I scored a nice push loop, I came in and made in the last 30 sec my second needed wave ride.

The win was for F400 as they didn’t score my push loop because they found the jump too much out off the sailing area, if they did I would wone.. Arggg.

Back on standby for one day as the wind would come back big time in the weekend.

"Done what i had to do"

Saterday morning I woke up at 6.30, done my morning tune session and went in a standby motion till my heat against Polakow him self.

Last Year I lost in the second round really close against him, so I had a revenge on him.

The cool part that I had to sail against him was that he was/ is one of the main hero’s back in the day, as his style was more than radical and fluent.

In the begin of the heat I was kind off struggle to find any good jump’s, slowly I mannish to do a Tweakted Push and a Backloop okay height one handed.
Than I made a nice backside to front to back to front side wave ride. There was one minute left I only needed one more wave, I was struggling to get out again but I mannish, with 25 second’s left on my watch I catch a nice wave up, what tuned into a nice 2m hollow wave and made a tweaked aerial shoved above the break and landed nice again back in front off the wave made another backside, that was it.
I went up to the judge tower were after while waiting received my best ever fictory.
I was not only winning of the rider Polakow but also the Name and next to that I also won against my self, because that’s was my main problem. In The Pocket!!!!

Up to heat two, there I med my friend Mikey Clancy.

He was sailing well but I guess I was in the zone, so I won that heat too.

Than Ricardo came on my road, Mister Triple men him self.

The wind picked up to a nice 4.1 Swell size, twin 86.
I started my heat a bit to sharp as I made a big backloop in front off the horn, what I didn’t know..
Than I went for pretty big tweaked push but I guess it was a bit to big as I was getting shake off my gear when I landed that….
Made some good wave riding, but as the wind picked up the waves did too, so the beach break was getting pretty high 3m at leached. On my second wave in the front side turn I was getting pretty gnarly washed, with sand in my ear’s I took off again and found a nice ramp for a Double and I made it, my first ever okay double in a heat. Stoked.
That was that, at the judge tower I hear that the call was for Ricardo, but it was a close call..

17th place Sylt 2009 and 24th place overall my best result till now.

LOW HUNTER,

Seems like after few weeks on the road I been tracking on die end one low pressure the hole way..

1/5 week ago I was just back in Holland after a trip to DK, when Peter Volwater call me if I was interested in a trip. Destination was not really clear yet, the only thing what was clear that peter needed some wave action soon!!
After almost been a half year doing only Slalom and scoring really good, i undetstood.

So Last week Wednesday afternoon we decided to go the next morning to Ireland to catch there some big swell 6m and 12 seconds.
I med in Pozo The kid Mikey Clancy and gift him a ring as he is from there. He had the same plan as us and picked us up the next morning.

With a long Night/Morning travel in or legs we arrived on Brandon were we where earlier than the low.
In the evening we scored a okay session port tack and went early to bed.

The Day,

Next morning the swell still needed to build up, but good enough for some onshore starboard tack 3m waves sailing. I seemed that the problem later that day not would be swell high but swell direction and wind direction..
In the mid day we sailed at a break with port tack with some side shore 2m waves max.
But still couldn’t get the ride combo.. So we went back to the morning spot where we tried to do some low wind wave sailing with starboard tack onshore.. Didn’t really worked out…
So that was the big day, hmmm not really what we expected to get but still three session’s on one day..

Next morning we woke up with a beautiful view over Brandonbay. There we also saw that the swell dropped to a small wave..Arggg
Still we step in the car and drove to Dumps were we were surprised to see some okay waves.
So we catch a surf what ended up to be a good surf. In the evening we scored again a surf what even pick up to a good size clean.

Next Morning it was back on to the windsurf tune as the wind would slowly pick up.
We scored some 1/5m down the line wave riding. This day gift us the peaceful feeling that the trip was worth doing it. As extra Peter and mikey even scored the next day a freestyle/ wavey day. The winner of that was Mikey.. Pulling some nice Goiter’s behind the wave, almost in front of the wave!!!

So that was that in Ireland, back to the plane to go as fast as possible to Holland as the wind should picking up to a strong wind size..

Back in Dusseldorf/Weeze , we were glad we made it as we had some pretty heavy bag’s. Oehff
Once by Peter’s house we saw that the wind should pick up in the afternoon so we repacked or gear and went straight to Good Old wijkie were we scored some 5.0 1/5 port tack wave sailing..
If I was not enough, next day I done some low wind wave sailing with my Sado 6.2.

Yesterday ‘Thursday’, the wind picked up to a strong wind in the gust’s up to 50KN..
I sailed 2hours and gift full gas, see the result below.. Many Thanks to JEPE who was out there in the Dog weather, thanks..

On the end I just found out that the Low in DK was the same as the one in Ireland where it combine with a new Low and that one I now back above Holland doing some windy things..

Trip in Ireland we were a bit on lucky with the rain, it was not possible to score some good pictures, sorry for that.

Saterday morning, was the moment of the call.. The weather down here (Holland) been dissing me in the last few days, as it say wind but brought now wind or not enough.
Today it was kind off the same again, so after doing the round off call’s we putted the flag on green and putted the dream Team LOW hunter together.

Saterday day night we arrived at the camping in Denmark were was spread a nice warm bed for us.
Next morning, the wind was there and after the breakfast we checked Hanstholm, there it was pretty flat and to offshore, at Klittmoller it was onshore and it looked it would be 24 off Happy Hours (way to busy).

Last year when I was here for a Competition I saw that Old MacDonald could work when I was to onshore on Klitt..
So that was the call, once there it was busy with Surfers but enough space for us.
4.7 and 1/5 m waves side shore, Ahhaaa……
After 2 hours sailing we done or Lunch at home and a beauty sleep!!

Once Back, the wind shifft to side side off, with waves up to 3m/ maybe more waves..
Beach break was gnarly and during the session I made my pray at leached 10 times off not breaking my mast…
“Luck was on or side”

As finishing touch after 3,5 hours sailing we received a beauty gift off mother Nature.
Clouds above us , rain and Beautifull sun shin from the side.. Thanks for that.

Next morning , we went back and catch a okay surf, a bit to busy!!!!!
In the evening we checked the forecast and that said, ‘earlier up than the birds‘!!!

Next morning at Hanstholm we were not the first once, U still got some crazy German’s. Hehehhehe
4.7 Swell was the size again, the waves were still high as it been blowing the hole night already far on the ocean.
After together 4 hours high quality sailing or energy level was empty..

THe Better days off Holland,

What started in the morning in Wijk Aan Zee with almost flat ocean ended few hours later with head high waves or a bit more…

3,5 hours Sailing and 1000 pica and a very good feeling father, I stopped in Wijk.

With a small break and a hour drive to Schevening I continued were I was ended in Wijk.

I will show you more action along many more pica’s in the next few days.

Pozo Time,

Its 3 weeks ago that i left Holland to go to Gran Canaries to do what i love the most {windsurf}.

The wind forecast was not that looking that good before i arrived and it seems I was maybe the special Joker as the wind kicked in on the day i arrived, one week before the competition.

The training went really well I was getting into a nice flow. Most of the time I was sailing with my 4.7 what was for me perfect were other guys were sailing with 4.0 or smaller.

Only one day I sailed with my 4.2 using a 4m mast in it, that was not really working for me as I’m a tall bastard.

After one week sailing I was feeling {ready, Set, go to take off}

Pozo is a perfect place to sail but also a place were its hard to stay focused as the wind blows out your brain and sucks all your energy away.

So it was really nice to spend my free time with Laure Treboux, Boujmaa and the other people in the house.

My first heat was against Bennie what should have been a nice starter.

The wind was stronger then the week before, so I tested my smaller sail with a 370 mast, but that felt too soft, so in that moment I didn’t really know how to change that or what to do.

The heat before my heat Kenneth, a friend of me from Denmark, went out with a 4.5 and that looked pretty okay.

So I went out with my 4.7 and that felt powered up but okay.

I needed 3/4 of the heat to finish my jumps and by the time I went for the wave riding I became too powered up.

So I could not really make my turns.

The call was 2 to 1 for Bennie, it was close but I just sailed below my level.

So that was pretty much a Knock out for me..

I was feeling miserable that I blew that, even Benny was surprised to see the results.

Took me a few days to refocus again..

In the double elimination I was against a new kid one the block.

Before my heat I went out to test my small sail and that felt really good as I putted a 4m base with a 370 top in it. Being tall and heavy is not always an advantage.. J

First time out I found myself doing a huge backloop and straight after a tweaked push then a spin forward and as a finish I dropped a back loop one handed. As I came in I made also a perfect back 360, so I felt more than ready.

The wind was really strange as it was really cloudy and not allowing for the sun to penetrate.

As my heat started it was gusty like hell. I started my first minute of the heat under powered which changed fast to okay power. I did all the safe moves in the jumping and I thought that would be enough.

In the wave riding I could not get really into a nice flow, the wave waves were bumpy and it I get in trouble when it’s like that, still I made some okay turning. But the call was for the local kid who sailed really well..

I was more than mad, and had the feeling of really having fucked up.

I’m now more than ever poised to get a good result, as I know I can do it… Argggggggggggggg

Sorry guy’s for the low action picks, I can promise u there was more than enough action of me out there..

'This is my CRIB and these are my ride’s’.

Normally DK is already heated up with windy days around this time off the year, but this year it seems it got his starting problems.

I always keep a eye on the weather down there, but it seem that the Dutch weather been even better than there lately!
But last weekend that changed again, DK was promising.

We packed the station Mercedes of Red Hansie Together with Hugo ‘Boss’ and drove Thursday on Friday night up to Klitt.. During that drive the wind front change a bit , we cast the full wind front while driving in the North off Germany. That didn’t make life easy as we had a quit pack on the roof. Once there we took or nap and wake up few hours later. With the night still in or mind we wake up and saw flying birds instead of flying wind. Argg.

‘Lucky me I’m surfing too’

I was quit happy we brought or surfboards with us. As the wind was there but not there.
Hanstholm was covered with a huge cloud what kept the new front away, but at Old Macdonald’s it was 5 up to 6 beaufor, with perfect onshore hollow waves. We ripped or Bud off ‘ I never seen Hansie that stoked!!

‘Marathon sailing,’

Next morning wind was there ‘Oehfff’. The Locals were already out there on the water as the forecast was still sketchy. Luck was now on or side.
I rig my favourite sail up ‘4.7 Swelll’ and took my new big wave board under it.
First session was low wind , good for waking up and getting in the rhythm. Backside 360* went pretty well.. ‘Spining the shizzel my nizzel’..
Later the wind didn’t drop as thought , so after a small break I continued. With a bit more jumping ‘as the wind picked up’ I also enjoyed this ride.

I took a small power nap after this Session what I really needed. By the time I wake up It was still windy and light.. The waves picked up to a nice size and tuned into better line’s .

‘Same Gear different time of the day’

I never sailed so long on one day with one Kit. I pushed my head under the water to really wake up.
After that I catch wave rides after wave rides. ‘Wow’
At nine in the evening , I needed to stop, there was no more energy…

Next morning the wind was kind off there but the waves where at Hanstholm a bit low, this stayed till the end off the day, so we catch a last session off surf a Mac D and packed everything and drove up home with a peaceful feeling.

From bad to a good Forward,
Hey guy’s,

This Sequence of Mark Welagen is from a few weeks ago during the Sunny Day’s.
Mark made for the fun a picture of the hole sequence for me, so some moments are not really balanced..

Back to the old day’s the Forward was my first big move what I learned.
I remember that I still count them some were up to 25 after that I lost the count.
I made them higher and higher and once I was in South Africa I also want to start going for the Double.

I found out that my rotation was not going ride to go for a double. I made the higher front loops pretty much end over end ( Killer Loops). At that moment I was already making good backloops and was surprised that a good nice rotated controlled forward was harder than a backloop. ‘Yes it really is’

I had some good advise of Mike the Killer. He makes perfect Forwards..
I had to start al over from the beginning on, that was a hard time.
Slowly I learned the hole process of the Frontloop. There are like 5 or 6 steps during going up and going into your rotation.

This days the best forwards are still made by the Pozo boy’s, they make “The Sky Man” Forward’s.
They go first full up wind (almost a backloop) and than going down wind into a Forward insane beautiful..

Hoop to see You guy’s out on the water soon again.

ON A Journey with the Swell...
I would like to take you guy’s along a small journey about my Point -7 Swell sails.
That's because I’m really stoked about the sails and each session the sail do surprise me again and again.

SO how does it comes they are working that well and why they got that big wind range???

On the Picture above I’m sailing with a 4.7 Swell, what is trimmed with full downhaul tension and almost a negative outhaul. If you look to the bottom till a little bit above the boom , the sail is fully curved above that {stabile power}. The sail open’s with to much wind by twisting in the top, but the bottom stay’s curved and powerful at the same time..

At that moment I was sailing on the max of the sail, but I was still convertible. The gust were a that time up to 39 knots!!This same size sail (4.7)I’m using too in really light wind conditions . Like 21-25 knots
On those moment’s I rig the sail up with less tension and with still negative outhaul.
So I get full power in my sail with a soft top end. because there is less tension on the sleeve and by this, the mast flex’s easier and also the sail top…

The different off both trims are that the sail in the first example, releasing the power by twisting open in the top. By the second example the sail released by having a soft top end off the mast .
So you got at all time the ride amount of power and easy handling.

Stoked!!!!!!!

I started surfing in my younger age after I started with windsurfing .

From the begin till a half year ago I always surfed on a short board, sometimes more and some less, but I always keep doing it.

The last half year I started to do Long boarding after I saw a guy here on my home break smacking it on his long board. I always thought that I would be more radical on my short than on a long board. I guess I was wrong.

For me it was always hard to keep on speed and get the carves finished.
On a long board you get faster speed but it is harder to change that speed into finishing the turns. So you really need to pay attention in how you use you body, the carves and the flow of the wave. You really need to push your self to get the board there were you want.

This feeling helps you really again in your windsurf wave riding!! Pushing it again harder!!

Sunny day's in Holland,

After a few weeks period of no wind last week the wind was back on track.
From the 3 days of sailing the last day was the best one.

This day i scored some prety okay shot's of Ruben and Mark.

In the water was Ruben Snitslaar, who was in the early days one/or best skateboarder in holland,. He' is now fully focust next to his surfing on his Photo Cameraman carrier, i belie

What U see is not always what U get!!!

A Amazing week,

This started with a quit okay temperature windsurf session on Wijk Aan zee.

The wind would be wzw but once on the water I still could make proper jumps and okay wave ride’s.
Still sailing with the hand gloves, the temp was around 7/8 degrees.
High light of that day was a smooth backside 360* into a Taka..

Next day the forecast mend to be side onshore from the right.

What we get was side and later side side off shore pure perfect wave riding with full power sun shine.
It was a 1/5 to 2m good breaking wave with okay power. Here I was again sailing with my 4.7 Swell and my 84L twin fin. Each session I am loving this set more and more.
In CV I was also sailing on this set in the last part of the event, were I straight away sailed much better..

On Thursday I went later at the day to the beach, once there looking over the dune I saw pretty much a flat sea.
I went for a coffee and after that I looked again and it was a bit better. By the time I walked over the dune with my kid I saw suddenly okay waves with side side onshore conditions.

I sailed 3 hours and mannish to stick 10 backside 360* in the growing conditions.
We recieft on the end of the session 2m waves . I’m still strucking at the moment with the front side wave 360*. ‘That’s a hard one‘. Again there was some jumping ramps. I done my standard repertoire, later I also tried a double again, only this time the rotation didn’t went like I planned it. I had to rotate it more with my body than by the sail, so I crash pretty hard on my back . Later I thought about what went wrong and u can see it also in the photo’s what were shoot by www.trademarkphotography.nl the power point moved to the back hand. I think It was mistake by me and suddenly to much wind!!

On Friday I relaxed a bit as I chrasht harder than I thought. I could not really move my head, During the day that became a bit better.

During the day the conditions changed slowly from dead onshore to side onshore. I gamble in the morning on the end of the day. I was hoping the wind changed more side shore and perfect waves.
What I whished what I get.

Again I tuned my 4.7 Swell and 84L on. I had to walk to the Jetty as there was not enough power to sail upwind.
Once there I saw perfect 3m pretty hollow lines.
The wind was still a bit side side onshore but more than okay for riding the wave.
What I get was two big aerial’s what I land, but straight away get eat by the white water and some good turns..

OverView Last Month and Taka Malaka

Since a good week i'm back again in Holland.

I had already a few surf session and one windsurf session again. So i'm pretty much in the ritme again of tempature.

It been a hectic few weeks.

First i went to Ireland and in a short time when i came back i had to decide if i wanted to go to CV.

Once there i came in the perfect conditions.
On die end of the event i finally came in the ride ritme of riding the Punta Preta wave, i was geting more in the pocket and more verticale.

After the event i stayed for a good week longer in CV were i scored somes surf and even done some Slalom sailing with Josh.

Now im waiting on the next LOW what will hit Holland.

Holland 3 Cape Verde 25degrees,

A small update about Cape verde.

First day early up and done my first session on Punta Preta.
I was amazed about the perfection of this wave, only had a hard time to find my place here.
Second session was straight my first heat, I done my best but had a hard time.
On die end of the heat I really went for it and made a proper smack into down the line to speed up for a aerial onlt the wave did something different than I had planned, it didn’t came up but it split up, I went down a gain to hit the next part for a aerial but I was to late. I get washed op the rocks, lucky enough gear was still all ride. So that was that.

Next day I went again for a early session, by the first wave I went to much upwind by the rocks and when I got from bottum to top I was to much in the critical part end got the breaking wave in my clew. Another wash on the rocks. Clew of the sail was broke out!!!
Later that day went out again, there I went first wave again straight on the rocks. Now I was less lucky .
Broken Mast and boom!!

Next day we had to wait a while end on die end of the day I had to go for my heat.
40 minutes we had, in dose 40 minute I slowly get a bit of trust end slowly got more in the ritme of the break.
But I was not enough .. That was the comp..

Today there was really light wind were we all went for some epic surf. Wow how beauty was that.

`Four season’s, Five day‘s,

One of the say’s from the Irish people is “ if don’t like the weather, just wait a minute”
Hehehhe really truth.

This road trip been standing for a while on my list and so I been following the weather time by time to get it done.

It seemed that everything would fell on his place as a new Low came over along the south side off Ireland and swell was already there.
As a Semi Professional I’m pretty easy in planning and doing trips, but to arrange a photographer is hard.
As it is usually last minute…
Non of the photographers had time so I asked my friend Torben and he had time. I rent for the five days a 400mm canon lens.
Flight/ car/ house/ camera/ house arranged in one day.

Next morning early in minus 2 degrees we were on the road up to Dusseldorf/ Weeze to catch there Ryanair flight at 8 o’clock.
Check in was now problem and 1/5 hour later we were in Shannon airport. There after some problems with fixing the car we were on the road, time was or animy as it was 12 o‘clock. In 13 degrees and rain we drove up to Inch SW off Ireland, good friend and sponsor told me to go there as the forecast should be perfect for there. 2.5 hours later we were standing on the beach there.
The perfect forecast for there should be and was South/ East wind with big Swell.
Swell was there but the wind seemed to be on off and soft. After driving on to the beach al the way to the point and waiting there 30 min we called it a no go. As fast as possible we drove to Brandonbay were we rented or sleeping place and what should be the ride place for tomorrow.
Once there at 4 o’clock we saw perfect conditions at Dumps with strong side/offshore wind and 2till 3m hollow waves. I rigged up my 4.7 and twinzer and went out.

First wave seemed and later for sure could say that it was one off the bigger waves of that day. The wave tuned into a full hollow wave what was breaking towards me.
I went full down the line to get speed and turn up to the lip, only the wave was faster there than I planned, so I hit the lip or the lip hit me and went over the falls and landed with my back on the boom. By the time I was above I saw that my boom was broken. All those hours travelling seemed not working in my way..

I borrowed the boom of Torben and went out again, only now the wind was slowly getting less.
I catch a few waves but the it seemed I was not on the ride place as the wave weren’t hollow anymore and together with the dieing wind it was not getting easier. That was day One..

That eave we eat by a local bar were we saw the weather forecast for the next day what looked promising, so with a nice small nap drink we called it a day.

Next morning we were ready for take of, only there was missing one important ingredient ’ wind”.
It seemed the wind was gone with the wind.. The Low pressure past us faster than planned.

We catch a bit of surf in 13 degrees warm sun shine weather and were praying for a good forecast for the rest of the day’s..

On Saturday we made a small hike on Gerry Williams were we saw some pretty big waves breaking , we went home I catch my short board and drove back there… It was already a adventure to get there on the point, walking over bumpy rocks dive in the water from the rocks, paddling around the point to the break were it was breaking 4/5m high in front of the rocks full hollow.
We were there with 4 of us. In the beginning I was for sure a bit scared as the wave was from flat to breaking point just in 2 seconds… On die end I took 2 wave were the last wave was really on shallow water..

In the eave we saw the new forecast and for sure we would not get a Low on time anymore as the High pressure pushed east wind along France England towards Ireland. So or guess was to go the south coast to get there some bump and jump.
Next morning back on the road towards Cork 2.5/ 3 hours away . Once there we wanted to go a beach with the ride angle on the wind so we ….. A beach at the end of a big bay. From normal road we drove into a smaller road that changed into a one way direction size into a dirt road and by the time we had the feeling we were getting close the road kind of stopped. I walked to a farmer and asked him about the beach. He looked at me like ‘what kind a stranger is this’ he told there is only a cliff and on the bottom a small beach. So that was a no go.
My backup plan was a land point what curfe into a bay, only I was a bit sceptic if there would be any swell..
It took us 3 quarters and so by the time we were there nigh became or animy as it was already 3.30.

By the bay we saw perfect 1/ 5breaking waves with a strong starboard tack east wind.
So for now or mission was already for 50% succeed, we check if we could launch some were as there were some rocks and hills around. As soon we step out of the car we really felt the temperature dropped to a cold 3 degrees, with 3 hours drive that didn’t felt comfortable. We had to go as it was or last day of any wind.
We rig 4.7 as I seemed to be again windy.
I went as first out and that was straight a struck as the was really gusty of the rocks.. On die end I mannish to get out and catch a wave, but was straight struck ling again to come out. I picked up another wave what turn into one of the biggest waves of the day, I tuned my self for a aerial and this time I hit ride, the wave smacked me up in the air were is was hanging for a while, on the way down I saw I was getting just halve way into the white water, but I mannish to hold during the landing. That was it I had my shot and my hands were freezing. I de’ rigt and went straight into the car to warm up.. The drive back was pretty hard as the cold and the earlier drive to my energy..

Next day we relaxed a bit and done or side seen .

That night around 2 o’clock we hit the road up to the airport during the trip the temperature dropped from 3 till minus and lucky we made it as It was snowing too.

First session in the New year and since a few weeks.
For today the first thing was, is it possible to go for a sail!? As Yesterday some guy’s done the Dutch championships windsurf Ice skating in - 4 degrees I was not to sure if it would be possible to do . On the other hand I had already this year 2 surfing session’s in minus condition’s and that was more than okay..

After first in the morning done some work as a carpenter outside in 2 degrees weather, I hit the road at 2 o’clock to Wijk Aan Zee.
Once there I found out I was not the only crazy one..
I tuned my 5.0 Swell up and put for the first time the twin fin’s in my brand new NewTwinser 84L.

There we went

In the begin the swell was still breaking between the beach break and second break.
The wave were okay but not really special. The temperature was okay as I was fully dressed in winter tune.In the first round I straight away felt the more upwind ability and on the wave it felt more alive/loose , so the first feeling’s were straight good..

As the high tide came in the we changed from secret to jetty.
There the waves tuned slowly from low to a slow okay wave.
A good friend of my brought his Camera along in his bag, so we could make pic’s of those cold conditions.
We sailed there with a group for a while, but slowly the cold took all energy out of the other guys and soon we were just with two off us. Also my friend had to stop and went away with the camera.In those minutes/quarters the waves pick up and picket up.

So there I was me my self and me, ripping my bud off.. For three quarters the waves fully lined up against the jetty in to 2,5 powerfull waves. Well who beliefs me, no camera no friends just me and the waves . Nice
I ript my last wave all the way back to the secret and there I switch the light out.
For now I’m already pretty stoked about the Twinser and looking forward to the next time.
Short feedback for now is: early plane, good upwind, loose on the wave, can turn really short if needed, short turning in top turn with a fast release after top turn and good acceleration on the wave.

What are my borders?, well I really don’t know it anymore…
This week I pushed my limits each day to lowest temperature line, I’ll ever imaged.

Thursday I had a hard time to get into the water because of onshore NW wind and 10 0C. Not so much motivation, because of the temperature
I came stoked from the water as I still could do what I learned in Morocco and South of Feurte.

On Friday there came a huge storm over were the temp dropped to 5 0C. The wind picked up in the morning to 12 Beaufort at some moments. When I went on the water, later that day, the wind was less, but still 8/9 Beaufort.
4.2m2 full overpowered. Some moments I managed to make some okay turns... Far outside of the jetty the waves were really huge; broken waves which were still 6m high.

Saturday the wind dropped to a nice 4.7m2 sail size with some decent sized waves of 3-4 meters.
The wind direction was between on- sideshore and even sometimes side offshore. Wow

In those moment’s when the wind was side/off, It was really beautiful. But also the temperature dropped straight to 5 0C or sometimes 3/4 0C. Brrrrr...Well…to be honest… not really!!!: I have received my new Freak O’Neill wetsuit and together with my hand gloves it was even pretty warm.

On Sunday I really pushed my limits.
With still NW groundswell and the side offshore wind from the South it was really insane.
I rigged up my 5.3m2 Swell in combination with my sweet Newwave 91.
At the time we were on the beach the wind changed to a strong 6/7 Beaufort. There we went, just the two of us, fully overpowered. Once we were at the jetty the waves lined up to some full hollow waves off decent size.

After an hour of sailing we went for a small stop as the wind was not really dropping but even was getting stronger. By the time we came back the wind was gone and it was snowing.
With a nice walk back from the jetty to the car in the snow trough the dunes, I was more than stoked.

The Magic half hour.....

“The moment that Jasper lensselink took his camera out my car for the small session of camera action, the conditions felt on the ride place, full hollow waves came in and I seemed to be on the ride place the hole time”

Earlier in the week i already had good conditions on my home spot Wijk aan Zee, today we decided as the wind would be stronger more up in the North to hit the road up to Texel, one of the islands of Holland.

Together with the Wijk crew we step on the boat were we catch the first island feeling when we were sailing between land and island.

Once in a while we go there, but till now I never really catch good conditions.

The moment that we made the first eye contact with the water or feeling changed a bit again in a sad feeling as the conditions were pretty messy .

That change fast when I took my new Newwave 91L board out of my car, I already had a few sessions on it and men im stoked.
I rig my magic 5.0 Swell up for some rock and roll..
The first hour there were messy waves and current , this slowly changed as the tight changed from high to low..

Jasper who was sailing first self took his camera out of the car as he was getting a bit tired..
And there was Magic, the swell picked up to a decent 2 meter break.

As the low current came in it sucked the wave into full hollow machines.
I carved my self in the pockets and catch almost each wave mad aerial‘s.
The Magic had to end, not because of lower swell but because of the darkness came in..

We talked it al over and over with a hotchoclade and typical dutch thing ‘Pancake‘s.

I was surfing around on the internet a few days ago, when I came on the Boardseeker site, there I saw a video from last year PWA Tiree contest.

For the people who read my blog so now and than; you probably can remember that I was trying to get some footage of an Aerial Taka during my trip on Tiree.

Rain in Pozo!!!

I receive my starting place for Pozo and you had to see my face, iwas stoked..

Bennie who went a view days infront of me already to Gran canaria had to pay only 60 euro’s for 6 bags after he done the online check in… Pretty okay priced..

So with this in my mind I step inside of the Amsterdam airport at 2.30 in the night.. My first step inside I straight away know that I wouldn’t be that lucky as him. It was fully packet. Happy hour… hole Holland was inside.
Everyone done the online line check in, so that was also now infants any more..
I tried to get the ride lady behind the desk but that went also wrong as the lady ‘said to me go to the manager for your gear oohh oohh’.. I was fucked as those people know all the tricks.. The guy asked me how many boards were in one off my backs “ uuhhh just two” I said…. I had to know better.. I had to open my bagand there the guy saw that I had 4 boards…au.. After allot of talking I mannish to just to pay for 3 bags..Oehff

Pozo now wind, as I arrived there in Pozo the wind was coming from the wrong direction..
Tine Slabe who never been there before , was informed that Pozo is the wind’s place on earth..
He could not really immense that, as we said ’ time will tell’..
The next day the wind was there and the waves picked up to 2m.. Men it was good.. It was 360* backside time ..

The day of signing in the forecast seems pretty light for the begin of the week so I also signed my in for the slalom as I had my gear with me for Fuerte. For the people who are really following everything knows that Point-7 smallest sail for this year is 6.2, but that sail I still had to receive after some trouble’s with sending.. So my smallest sail there was 6.7.. So I was really hoping on a miracle.. Heheheheheh..

I was against Campello in my first heat as we also were the opening off the competition, what is not that nice..
The wind was pretty light as I was on my 5.0 and 92L and still was struckle trough the light wind.
After two attempts of one Footed/handed backloop I couldn’t stop the light wind champ Ricardo..

In the double elimination I was sailing against the brother of Jonas Ceballos, who can jump as almost good as Jonas.. I was on my 4.5 and 82L all wave and I was was feeling well.. I get two really good wave ride’s were I scored 5.5 and 6.5 what is pretty good.. In the jumping I also passed him as some didn’t thought that.. With a front loop Tweaked push loop and a high backloop..
My next heat was against my buddy Boujmaa.. Boujmaa was already one month in Pozo and progress allot…
As the heat started the wind picked up were I still was sailing on my same gear.. I crashed a view small jumps as I couldn’t release the power in those small jumps.. I catch two good wave rides were I scored 5 and 6 for..
5 minutes left one my watch, so normally time enough to get 2 more jumps as made one front loop already..
I was trying to sail smart as I started at the rock up wind to have a good view over the hole corner of waves..
Opening the sail waiting on waves, all didn’t work to get good waves for jumping.. On they end I mannish to get one high backloop and one forward, but that was not enough against Boujmaa’s who had his best heat ever..

On the end I never touched the slalom gear as the wind went from strong to really strong and more stronger, 6.7 was out of mission…
I took on Monday a flight with one set of gear to the north of fuerte, were I sailed a view days just wave.

Now I’m in the south of Fuerte were the slalom PWA started.
The last view days I been testing my gear and I is feeling good.
Today we done or first elimination in pretty light conditions.. I got stocked at the started behind a wave and ended 5 seconds to late at the start.. After allot of pumping I mannish to get 7th what was just not enough to go trough..

Time was not there after the AC-1 sails arrived in italie a few days before the PWA Costa Brava competition.
I made my decision to go straight to Costa instead of going along Garda lake and hoping that Patrick who will bring the sails with him would arrive earlier.

My flight was oke after I had some hassle with checking in my and Peter Volwater bags..
Once there at the camping I found out that Patrick still was not there..
I borrowed on the end of the day Kurosh AC-1 9.0 sail after he stopped sailing.
This was my first feeling with the sails and it felt good in the minimal conditions..

The next day no wind and no Patrick, where was Patrick!!!

The morning of the signing in and first competition day.. Patrick arrived oehff..
I straight went for a sticker session and after tuning the sails with Kurosh who been with andrea testing them, the day was already spent, I was lucky there was no wind..

The morning of the second day was cloudy, so no wind till the moment when the sun smoked the clouds away.
Wind straight kick in.. in the mane time the gear was already on the beach.. I sailed a few round for my self and than I had to go to my first heat…

After 4 months didn’t been standing on my race gear because of no sails it al felt pretty good.
Start was good and was 4 at the mark, jibe inside of the rest and past with this 2 more guys, but than a wave went over my nose what I couldn’t handle because I just turned my sail.. There I was in the water, sail was straight full of water, I was fucked…

Second race I done the same thing jibe inside and became second at the second mark I made a mistake by not looking around me and didn’t close the door for other riders, I went into my jibe what was close to the mark but than some francy wanted to make a impossible jibe between me and the mark, I turned my board again to not get into a crash and ended up making a wide jibe. I lost straight 3 place’s because of this.. At the third mark I went wide around the mark because it was happy hours close to the mark, that was good but than some wanker good not handle his jibe and went wide straight into me, I turned my board to not get into a crash but that also ended up my speed.. This round I ended up fifth..

Round three I was close to fourth position but again just mist my ticket to the next round…..
That was straight also the end of the day..

The next days the wind wanked around, because of a low pressure… It was raining allot in the days after and that was pretty fucked up as we stayed in our bungalow what was mend for 4 person’s, I was almost like a chess game..

The day of leaving the place..
At the check in desk of the airport I had the bitch of al bitch‘s.. I had to bags with me and still had to pay for the second one. Buth than the hassle started, se wanted to weight the gear, I said that is impossible because of the wide.. But what I did,t know se was welll experienced and took 2 trash cans and putted on the weigh machine..
I was fucked. For sure I know that I had to much weight but this !!! I ended up repacking everything into 7 bags were I didn’t had the bags to cover.. I ripped out of my triple board bag the flaps between easy board and putted around one board what I had to take out for the weight.. 220 euro’s out of my pocked.. Auu that one hurt..

I want to thank Carolina[ RSX] who travelled along with me, who helped me repacking everything. Thanks….

After al this I’m still kind of stoked, because the sails felt really convertible/ stabile during the one day session.

Five country’s one ticket,

It seems (and did) at the time 4 weeks ago Holland was getting a big high pressure, so I went checking other country’s for any surf or competition..
Ireland , France, Feurte and Marocco what would be for train and in Gran Canaria would be a competition of the second reef contest. As the forecast was really bad for GC and the rest were not that promising, I choose for Morocco, what been standing since I been young on my wanted to go list and would also be really good to update for my starboard tack..

I called Boujmaa up and asked him if I could come. He said yes only he was self in France for a photo shoot with flat conditions.
I found out that Ryanair is flighing on Marrakech and straight away booked my flight.

Next evening I landed on Marrakech with 70 kilo triple board bag and as soon the door went open I saw my name standing on a pies of paper. The taxi straight away asked me if I was a basketball player…Argg.

I was glad Boujmaa arranged the taxi because that would be a big hassle.

We left the city soon behind use after a hectic steal of driving of the cabdriver.

One of the good things of the Moroccans are that when they are transporting something they try to bring as much as possible with them, serious allot (Like double size off the truck ).

After a relaxed 2/5 hours later I arrived in the village Moulay Bouzerktoun, were friends of Boujmaa where waiting on me in the Restaurant.
The first night I stayed at Fettah’s place who is the coach and best friend of Boujmaa.
The rest of my time I stay in Boujmaa’s kingdom house where Youssef and Hamsa also where staying.

The next morning I was invited for a downwind because the swell would be bigger at the beach break and it was. I rigged my new Swell 5.0 sail up 2/3 hours later we arrived in Moulay again. I was stoked. The wind was from under till over powered and the sail worked perfect as I tuned to each condition.
Really easy stabile power in the middle of the sail.. I’m stoked..

View Days Later when the swell was bigger but not so much groundswell in it, I went upwind, because there I expected a stronger break, because of the shallow beach break.
Once there I was ride. The first wave what I took was straight away the biggest wave of the day..
I lined up and went for a aerial , problem was that the swell was breaking to me, that makes it very hard to land a aerial in front of the wave.. There I was flighing through the sky…with all mine energy throwing to in front of the wave was not enough.. I landed after second’s in the sky in the white water, I straight away make my pray for my mast as I went straight with my mast to the front.. After twisting around under need the water still in my footstraps nothing happen. Oehfffff that was my only mast here so oehffff…

Later in the week we received some nice swell and I felt slowly in love at the place.
The Guys were really kind to me and I kind off felt at home by them..

The place is slowly changing to a nice place to come by plane for a short or long trip as you got restaurant,hotels and surf centers.

Boujmaa has started together with Fettah and Youssef ,Bouj wind surfing adventure center .
You will find windsurf/ Kite materials for rental, road trips and when you needed it lesson’s from the best instructors…

After 2 weeks of good sailing Boujmaa found finally some space to come over..
After 2 days off flat land the third day brought some wave.
Boujmaa was hipper as nothing else and stall the show big time and showed who is still the king here…

The trip was on his end, with 2/5 week of sailing in my pocket I took together with Bouj a taxi back on the 20 second. We took a short cut with a really nice view over a valley and enjoyed the skills of the cap driver who maybe will be one day the new Schumacher..

Once there at the airport I found out what I been missing the last 3 weeks, chicks chicks and chicks really the place was full of chicks..

Ohh yeh sorry guys for now action pic but i didn't had a camera and the people there also didn't had. The only thing what i can say is the place rockt..

As my GrandMother always told ' do your streching and you will be as flexible as me now'....

Well there i was standing on the beach with beuatifull waves waiting on me, doing my stretching. First hour of surfing i was smacking it.. The waves where perfect 1/5 to 2 m fully line left, right everything...

Than the lighning came down, backside cutback and au au au..I Cracked my back.. After one hour peddling against the current i stopped.. Back was still quit okay.

On the parking place i was talking to someone and had my board on my feet's.. When i picked it up the lighning hit me down..

Since than i'm a old men like my 'grandmother'.. The lesson for me is ' Do your streching in small step's' and do your run befor the strech as my grandmother forgot to say!!! aaarrrgggg..
